CULTURE

CULTURE

Building Relationships -- Promoting Health

Challenge Course

Students bring different cultural norms, values, and attitudes regarding various aspects of life from their communities. Attending a university gives us membership to another community. Because the use of substances is a part of college life, individual differences also apply to how we view substance use. We are also different in our approach to healthy living, for making healthy choices regarding substance use are influenced by our psychological, social, cultural, and economic environments.

At ADCAPS, we work collaboratively with students and organizations on campus to promote healthy choices, reduce health risks, and support personal efforts to maintain a healthy and academically successful college experience. In sum, we strive to provide students with the following:

  • Information about alcohol and substance use to help you make independent and informed decisions
  • Increased awareness about the interrelationships between alcohol/drug use and other life experiences, such as stress, depression, and sexual assault
  • A resource that values safety and confidentiality, and acknowledges the importance of a supportive and nonjudgmental environment
