"Psyched Up" & On Top of Your Game
The Student Athlete Mental Health pages have been moved to
Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds….both are essential to performance
The expectations for student athletes, that are in addition to their academic work, create pressures that all too often undermine mental health and sports performance. Researchers have identified that 10-15% of US collegiate athletes struggle with psychological issues that warrant professional treatment, but many are hesitant to seek help, for fear of appearing weak, losing playing time, or the respect of peers and coaches (APA Healthy Minds. Healthy Lives).
Good mental health sets the stage for peak performance: when you manage stress well, you'll be able concentrate on performance and get in the zone more easily.

This website exists to provide basic information about mental health concerns, and to encourage WSU student athletes to consider the importance of mental health in their personal, athletic, and academic pursuits. The information on this website is not meant as a substitute for proper treatment; some student athletes may benefit from speaking with a health professional. If you or someone you know is in or near crisis, please contact one of the resources listed in the right-hand column. Seeking professional help before a crisis often leads to a faster and stronger recovery. We are here to help.
